Highline Inspired

This owner of this contemporary new build in Newlands asked for a garden which suited their design led tastes. In particular, the client loved New York’s High Line – a redundant train line which was turned into a world-famous public space. The strong linear elements seen so strongly in the high line were translated into the new garden through the use of a bench, lounger seat and decking path.

Richly coloured Balau hardwood and Cor-ten steel planters contrasted with the otherwise strictly monochromatic colour scheme. Raised planters added some depth to the otherwise relatively flat layout of the garden. A moss lawn was introduced as a low-maintenance alternative to a traditional lawn. In the corner planter, a multi-stem Amelanchier tree adorns the garden with white blossom in spring and a fiery show of leaves in the autumn.
