Design and build project featuring hard and soft landscaping.

Design brief: The brief for this small garden design was to create a lot more colour and visual interest, along with a sunset seating area. The rabbit needed a small patch of grass and there needed to be low maintenance areas for a busy family in Colchester.

Hard landscaping: Hard garden landscaping featured self binding gravel which was tampered into a circle and half circle with corten steel edging for a crisp line. The lawn had the same corten steel edging. Slatted fencing was added to bring a contemporary feel and all fencing was painted black. Two raised/ retaining borders were installed to step the garden down from the existing footpath and patio.

Soft landscaping: Garden planting featured pleached hornbeams to hide an ugly roofline, underplanted with a row of matching shrubs and herbaceous perennials to help the small garden design really ‘pop’. Shady planting was added along the property edge and a sharp hornbeam hedge added for more clipped precision.
