Small front garden design and build. Shingle dry garden with a no-lawn scheme for low maintenance yet chic look.

Front garden design and build.

Design brief: Make the area more attractive but also low maintenance. Ensure that leaves could be blown as it gets covered by the cherry tree in autumn. Add colour and interest with planting design.

Features: A large boulder with smaller rocks around it. We added steel garden art of ferns and seed heads to provide winter interest. The front sleeper boundary line also provided a decorative feature.

Hard landscaping: Removed the lawn and shrubs so we could add manure to the soil before planting. We built a sleeper boundary feature to look like beach groynes, set to different heights and spacing. The design was finished with ground covered in locally sourced pea shingle in mixed grades as a dry garden.

Soft landscaping: Dry garden planting was added with large spacing to show off the pea shingle. Hardy perennials were mixed with ferns and spring bulbs for a layered and wafting planting style in subtle colours.
