Back garden design and build. Removed the lawn and inserted a round lawn with water feature, pathway, seating area and planting.

Design brief: Wind protection was the primary concern, along with adding more design led features to make this retirement garden more interesting. A water feature amongst a good percentage of lawn and improved borders were key ‘wants’ in the small landscape design.

Hard landscaping: The garden slope became an amphitheatre to stage the garden towards the house. A circular lawn, lined with corten steel edging was centred around a millstone water feature. The pebble footpath had existing round stepping stones relaid to lead up to the new morning seating area.

Soft landscaping: The existing garden planting was in great condition so we deepened the borders and added trees and shrubs for wind protection. Then herbaceous perennials , ferns and shrubs were added to provide dramatic and lush colour, leaf shape and scent. Colours were pale buttermilk yellow, pink, lilac and lime green.

Features: The millstone water feature suspended above large format pebbles provided wonderful sound to the garden, along with something the birds love bathing and drinking in. The dull potting shed was repainted in anthracite barn paint to help it stand out. The striking vertical posts were added at varying heights and painted to match the potting shed - giving a subtle contemporary feature facing the evening sun.
