For this garden design, our client Marion wanted us to create a garden that would serve as a place to remember her late husband and accommodate family gatherings. Their previous property (which was on 2 acres of land) had long walkways of brick paving and planting in abundance. After her husband passed away Marion moved into a new build in Halstead, which had lovely brickwork from the garages on both sides.
The garden design that we presented to Marion had no turf, but a mixture of paving and clay pavers from London Stone to maximise the space. The lighter colour paving was chosen to show off the Cotswold pavers, which she loved, as it reminded her of the brick walkways in her previous property. The paving was laid at a 45-degree angle for visual interest and directional contrast.
Adjacent to the seating, we created a special area for the urn of Marion’s late husband. The planting was key in this garden design and after spending time trawling through old images of their previous garden, we were able to identify the plants that Marion liked. As a result, we were able to create a new landscaped garden that replicated the scheme in her previous garden.
